The startup Notpla has received €4 million from the EU to develop plastic-free disposable coffee cups. They will be fully natural and home-compostable (you can throw them away with organic waste – they decompose on their own). The team is currently: testing materials, setting up mass production, preparing the product for market launch. Notpla already makes seaweed-based packaging and is testing it in cafés, stadiums, and universities. The goal is to replace paper cups with a plastic lining with an eco-friendly alternative.
